Indianapolis 500 Mini-marathon

What a great race this is! I've lost track of how many times I've run it, but it's something like 13 or 14. I never get sick of it. In fact, it's almost a blissful event, and I'm a little disappointed that it's over already. So much fun!

This year I ran it with Abby the whole way. I will admit that I could have trained more, especially after spending a month on travel right before the race. Oh well. There's something to be said for muscle memory, our something like that.

Though my time wasn't a personal  best, I had a great time running with Abby, and was pleased to get this good a time. (Let's be clear here- Abby trained way more than me and I was glad to keep up!)

I thought I'd share a few pics from the race. Hope you enjoy!

  1. For your information, this post was written while David was taking an ice bath. Which is, in case you've never experienced it before, one of the worst experiences in existence. How in the world can it possibly be better than the alternative?! Ask me tomorrow, I guess.

  2. What's the alternative to an ice bath? Looks like you guys had a great time. Almost makes me want to train for something again. ;-)

Abby told me she hadn't been training as much as she should have for the race either. Glad you both made it through without any injuries! And...very glad to see you back in the country. Hope all went well with your travels.

Looking forward to visiting you guys in L.A. sometime soon!

  4. David, how is it you sneak these posts in without me seeing them? I know a good alternative to the ice bath, and it doesn't involve work: NSAIDs (ibuprofen, etc.) Thank goodness for chemicals. Why would you subject yourself to an ice bath? Maybe we should take up a collection to send you as the family representative to the Lake Minnetonka Ice Plunge: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWA7sNLLr-g

  5. I could almost feel and experience the race all over from your pictures. I LOVE this race. There is nothing like the cow bells, the children giving high fives in the street, the water hose from the firemen, and of course the giant American flag. Well done David and Abby. It looks like Indianapolis is still there.
